Mike had fond memories as a child growing up in Adelaide and working on a 32 acre vineyard owned by his father in Morphett Vale, close to the now famous Southern Vales area of South Australia. Unfortunately the vineyard has long since gone, taken over by housing as Adelaide grew.

In 1998 we purchased the property now known as Racecourse Lane Wines. It consists of 37 acres (15Ha) and is located on the corner of Racecourse Lane and O'Connors Road, Pokolbin, in the Lower Hunter Valley, 160km north of Sydney in New South Wales.

We have a prime objective of producing quality wines typical of the original Hunter styles for the Semillon and Shiraz plus we also have the newer varieties of Verdelho and Sangiovese.

Our vineyard management a major part of the quality drive and we undertake numerous activities and take additional time and works to produce the best fruit possible, including early thinning of the fruit, mulching, a considerably reduced water regime and selective hand picking.

This year we were very pleased to receive a Gold medal for our 2004 Semillon and a Silver medal for our 2004 Verdelho. This has been seen as a reward for the efforts put in by all involved from the whole Racecourse Lane Wines team both in the vineyard and the winery.

David Fatches is our winemaker and until you have undertaken a few vintages with these artists you don't have any idea of the extended time and personal dedication that is necessary to produce wines of our quality. We thank David for his continued dedication and direction.

There is now a wider opportunity to try our wines at a restaurant and you will see we have added additional quality establishments to those we supply and there will be more soon.

We do hope you try our wines as soon as possible as our volumes are not great and the wines are moving.
